May 1, Saturday -- About 1,300 guests will attend the eighth annual Aggie Auction to raise money for the grants-in-aid fund to support student athletes at UC Davis. After they mingle among hundreds of items available by silent auction, the guests will be served dinner by student athletes, enjoy two dance team performances and then bid on about 25 items in the live auction -- from a 14-day European cruise aboard the Queen Elizabeth II to a hockey jersey signed by the "miracle" 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. The silent auction begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the live auction at 8 p.m. Organizers aim to raise $425,000. Although the event is sold out, auction items can be viewed online at http://www.aggieauction.com/, and proxy bidding can be arranged by calling (530) 752-2699.
