Panel: Rhacel Parreñas, professor, Asian American studies, on Filipina immigration to Japan; Luz María Gordillo, assistant professor, history and women's studies, Washington State University, Vancouver, on Mexican immigration to the United States; and Judith DeGroat, associate professor, history, and chair, gender studies, St. Lawrence University, on North African immigration to France, including the controversy over the use of the veil. Nov. 29 -- Crossing Borders II: A Testimonial Poetry Reading (Cruzando fronteras II: lectura de poesía de testimonio), featuring Francisco Domínguez, Andrea Porras, Roberto López, Juan Manuel Portillo, Ernesto Ortiz-Díaz, Decoy, Francisco X. Alarcón and others. Plus an open microphone for anyone else who might be interested in reading their poetry. Music by Grupo Semilla. Refreshments. 6:30-9 p.m., Pence Gallery, 212 D St., Davis.
