The main focus on the NCAA football championship game Monday (Jan. 11) between Alabama and Ohio State may have been on the gridiron, but UC Davis helped make the halftime show possible.
Four UC Davis students played in the virtual marching band performance that was shown during the break in the game: Jordi Avila (alto saxophone), Celia Amezcua (tenor saxophone), Micah Gruenwald (trombone), and Nazil Luqman (trumpet) appeared in the above video, especially between 1:50 and 2:05 in the recording.
“You can also see Celia show off some cool dance moves around the 2:50 mark,” said Garrett Rigsby, UC Davis Marching Band director.
The video was produced by the College Band Directors Association, and included 1,500 students from 200 institutions, Rigsby said.
Twitter: Work goes on while vaccines get doled out
Greg Farwell: One of the coolest things I have seen in my career. Our UC Davis otolaryngology faculty, Dr Andrew Birkeland receiving his COVID vaccine WHILE giving a K-12 grant presentation. Didn’t miss a beat. Getting a vaccine to stop a pandemic while reporting on research to cure cancer!
Looking for COVID-19 in the sewers
You may have read about how researchers at UC Davis are sampling wastewater on campus for signs of COVID-19 infection, but now you can see it in action. Don’t worry — it’s not anything you need to avoid watching during your lunch hour! See an explanation of the process in the above video.
Facebook: Welcome kits available to students
UC Davis Student Life: Aggies — starting Monday, Jan. 11, we have free welcome kits or branded face coverings for students to be picked up at the UC Davis Stores campus bookstore!
The kits include a branded face covering, hand sanitizer gel, a package of disinfectant wipes, thermometer strips and a door opener/button pusher. If you've already received a welcome kit, you can pick up an extra branded face covering.
Before picking up your free item you'll need to get a COVID-19 test at the ARC within seven days of your visit to the campus bookstore. The day you go to pick up your item, complete the Daily Symptom Survey to obtain your approved badge. Once at the Campus Store, be sure you are wearing a face covering and show them your valid UC Davis student ID.
One kit or branded face covering per student (undergraduate and graduate).
