UC Davis is greeting new hires and prospective employees at a new “front door” — the UC Davis Front Door website — to help them settle in to their new community.

Front Door presents information from existing websites or provides links to other sites pertaining to:

• Davis and Sacramento campuses (including Human Resources, new faculty resources, employee identification cards, development and training, WorkLife and Wellness, child care and other family care, dining options, parking and transit, employee discounts)
• Cities and counties where employees might choose to live
• Housing resources

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter got the ball rolling when he appointed a workgroup to develop a comprehensive website to assist the broad diversity of candidates and new hires during their recruitment and relocation to UC Davis.

The workgroup included representatives from Human Resources, Talent Management, Staff Development and Professional Services, Academic Affairs (Davis campus) and Academic Personnel (UC Davis Health System), and Real Estate Services.

The workgroup conducted surveys and interviews across both campuses in developing the website.

Campus Information — This section includes pages for the Davis campus and the UC Davis Health System. Each page includes career opportunities, virtual tour and map.

Local Communities — Covering 11 counties and their cities and communities, schools, information, average home prices, climate, places to stay, dining, events and recreation activities. 

Housing and General Resources — Temporary housing, sabbatical and rental listings, relocation services, loan calculator, mortgage origination program (for faculty and the senior management group), and, coming soon, preferred real estate agents. General resource topics include air travel, banking, driver licenses and auto insurance, government websites and legal resources.

New Employee Welcome — Front Door includes the schedule for NEW events held quarterly on the Davis campus. The UC Davis Health System combines New Employee Welcome Orientation and Mandatory Annual Safety Training,

The Front Door link and program information will be part of the new employee packet starting this fall.
