Visitors to the North Gate Kiosk receive a helping hand from student Jennifer Cheng and a helping paw from her dog, Keira. Cheng, a senior history major, said four other UC Davis students gave her the dog about a month and a half ago, after deciding that their school schedules did not allow them adequate time to care for Keira. Cheng said Keira, a chow chow-corgi mix, “hates being left alone,” so Cheng takes Keira to work in the visitors kiosk. “She’s been really popular here,” said Cheng, who works in the booth three mornings a week. “A lot of people come up to pet her.” Keira’s “work station” is in her bed on the kiosk counter. “She jumps up here,” Cheng said. “She likes to look outside and feel the wind.”
