Four staff members will comprise a panel this Thursday (Nov. 6) on the topic of their successful “Career Journeys” at UC Davis. The noon-hour program is open to everyone in the campus community, no reservations needed, as part of the Career Catalyst series presented by Staff Development and Professional Services.
“A career is a journey, traveling from one professional endeavor to another, where despite carefully crafted plans, serendipity may reign,” states the flier for “Career Journeys: Success Stories at UC Davis.”
“Does it seem as if successful people know exactly what they want to do in their professional lives and how to get there? This may be more myth than reality. Life lessons have suggested that success may be a combination of planning, perseverance and sheer happenstance.”
The panelists will talk about how they got to where they are today, the present, the surprises, the challenges, the opportunities and the role that mentoring played in their travels. “Most certainly there will be souvenirs of wisdom you can take with you as you travel your own professional path.”
The panel is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. in the multipurpose room at the Student Community Center.
Carina Celesia Moore, director of the Talent Management Center of Expertise in Human Resources, will lead the discussion. Here are the panelists:
- Ben Gamez, analyst, Human Resources
- Lina Layiktez, director, Conference and Event Services
- Sara Reed, director, Shared Services Center
- Mikael Villalobos, diversity education administrator, Office of Campus Community Relations
