UC Davis pretty much has your Saturday (Oct. 25) all planned out for you:

Heroes Run and Valhalla GalaPut on your mask and cape, and lace up your super shoes for a “super fun 5K run” in which you’ll be fighting the good fight — for philanthropy, in this second annual benefit for the student-run We Are Aggie Pride, which provides financial assistance to students in need. Conference and Event Services, which launched this event last year and is hosting again, invites runners to wear their superhero gear (with a reminder to please keep all costumes tasteful and appropriate for all ages). The run starts at 9 a.m. on the Quad, and loops around the campus and back to the Quad. (Fledgling heroes get their moment in the sun at 9:45 a.m., in the 400-meter Villain Chase.) The gala runs from 9:15 to 11, with food, music and prizes. Register online or day of race, starting at 8 a.m.

Our Oath in Action: Animal AdoptathonUC Davis veterinary students and professionals uphold their veterinary oaths by holding this daylong event featuring no-fee adoptions and veterinary services. Come out to Russell Field (along Russell Boulevard at the north edge of campus) to see the dogs and cats and birds and maybe some minihorses — as more than a dozen shelters and rescue organizations try to find loving new homes for as many pets as possible. Other activities include 4-H and dog club demonstrations, and face painting — with animal art, of course! 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is free, but everyone is encouraged to bring new or gently used pet supplies and blankets, and unopened pet food, for donation to the shelter or rescue group that places the most pets in new homes, during the adoptathon.

Arboretum plant saleThe second of the arboretum’s two fall plant sales, each focusing on “The New Front Yard” — offering plants and ideas for long-term water conservation. The drought-tolerant inventory includes attractive, easy-care, region-appropriate plants, including a large selection of California natives and Arboretum All-Stars. 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Arboretum Teaching Nursery. Open to the public, free admission.

University Airport Open House — Check out the planes, talk with flight instructors and other pilots, including Professor Steve Robinson, a former astronaut, who will present displays and demonstrations in his hangar. UC Davis students will be in the aerospace engineering hangar, discussing their projects and research — and offering flight simulator rides. Hosted by Friends of the University Airport, and UC Davis Transportation and Parking Services, or TAPS. Free admission. Food and soft drinks will be available. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., 1 Airport Road, off Hopkins Road, west of Highway 113.

BOO!-tastic Kids Health FairSafety demonstration, hand-washing lessons, nutritional tips, fresh produce grown by UC Davis students, and mobile gaming courtesy of Game Truck. Information booths include a dental station and an “Ask a Doctor” booth. Hosted by UC Davis Pediatric Ambulatory Services. Free. 9 a.m.-1 p.m., corner of Stockton Boulevard and Second Avenue, Sacramento campus.
