Energy prices were already rising before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent them soaring further. At the same time, the crisis is affecting global supplies of fertilizer. What is going on with the markets for fuel and fertilizer, and how do they intersect? What’s the outlook? Joining us to discuss these and related questions are two UC Davis economists:
- Mark Agerton is an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at UC Davis and a nonresident scholar at the Center for Energy Studies housed at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy. Agerton works on issues in energy and resource economics.
- Aaron Smith is the Deloach Professor of Agricultural Economics in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at UC Davis. His research addresses policy, trading and price dynamics in agricultural, energy, and financial markets.
