An awards program and reception will be held next week for Academic Senate and Academic Federation members who are being honored by their respective organizations for achievement in teaching and research.
Music professor Anna Maria Busse Berger is this year’s recipient of the Faculty Research Lecture Award (the Academic Senate’s highest accolade) and will deliver said lecture as part of the awards program. Her talk: “In Search of Medieval Music in Africa.”
CHARLES P. NASH PRIZE
Eric Schroeder, writing instructor and Summer Abroad director, is the recipient of this year’s Charles P. Nash Prize, honoring a faculty member who epitomizes Nash’s commitment to shared governance, and his advocacy on behalf of faculty interests and welfare. The award, given by the Academic Federation, Academic Senate, Davis Faculty Association and the Nash family, will be presented at a May 12 dinner. Read more.
The program is set for Tuesday, May 5, in the multipurpose room at the Student Community Center. RSVPs are requested. Here is the schedule

- Distinguished Teaching Awards, undergraduate — Russell Hovey, animal science; Kristin Lagattuta, psychology; and Clarence Walker, history.
- Distinguished Teaching Awards, graduate-professional — Margaret Ferguson, English; John Labavitch, plant sciences; and Truman Young, plant sciences.
- Distinguished Scholarly Public Service Awards — James Carey, entomology; Harry Cheng, mechanical and aerospace engineering; and Robert Powell, chemical engineering and materials science.
Academic Federation honorees:
- Excellence in Research Award — Kyria Boundy‐Mills, specialist, Department of Food Science and Technology (she’s the curator of the university's Phaff Yeast Culture Collection).
- Excellence in Teaching Awards — Andrea Khoo, lecturer, physical education; and Karma Waltonen, lecturer, University Writing Program.
