Cyrus/Geckomail is going away, and office365.ucdavis.edu has new log-in pages, one for regular displays and one for mobile devices.
• Cyrus/Geckomail — Information and Educational Technology has given users until Sept. 1 to choose a replacement or be moved automatically to Office 365, which most other staff members are already using.
As of the end of July, IET figured around 1,200 staffers were still using Cyrus/Geckomail. IET plans to shut down the system by the end of the year.
• office365.ucdavis.edu — The new log-in pages, with interfaces that are larger and more user friendly, went live at 8 p.m. Aug. 6. Campus administrators also upgraded the servers that support the service.
By going through their Web browsers to office365.ucdavis.com (or 365.ucdavis.edu), Office 365 users can access their email accounts and other Office 365 tools, such as OneDrive and SharePoint, without having to fire up the Office 365 software.
The most visual change to either new log-in page is the addition of a photo of a campus scene to the larger version. But the smaller version is visually different, too — having been made mobile friendly for the first time. See the log-in pages, old and new.
The log-in process is the same, with @ucdavis.edu e-mail address and pass phrase.
