Vanpool information meeting: Aug. 27
Transportation and Parking Services wants to help you figure out your commute costs, and how much you could save by participating in a vanpool.
So, for starters, here’s a commute cost calculator. Then, you’re invited to a vanpool information meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the TAPS Building (map and directions are available here).
The meeting is for everyone, no matter where you live, but TAPS will present specific vanpool cost information for commuters from Elk Grove, Folsom and Vacaville.
“Vanpool is the perfect solution for commuters looking for an easy, affordable alternative to driving alone to campus,” said Leslie Mancebo, transportation demand and marketing coordinator.
She said the information meeting will include lunch and prize drawings. RSVPs are requested by email.
Rental cars that go easier on the environment
Many of you who walk or bike to work, do so to help the environment. So, when you need to rent a car for an hour or two, you still want to go easy on the environment, by using a car that runs on something other than gasoline alone.
No problem, Fleet Services and Zipcar have you covered.
Fleet Services has 13 vehicles in its UCDrive fleet, parked around the campus, and only two (both of them minivans) are all-gasoline.
Of the other 11, three are bi-fuel (gas or ethanol), two are all-electric, two are plug-in hybrids (electric and gas), two are hybrids (electric and gas), one runs on biodiesel-diesel and one runs on compressed natural gas.
They are kept in three locations: Parking Lot 49 at Fleet Services (La Rue Road), Facilities Services Building (Crocker Lane) and in the north entry parking garage (Quad Structure).

Recently, Zipcar added its first all-electric vehicle to its UC Davis fleet. Nicknamed “Evy,” the electric car brings to 11 the number of Zipcars kept on campus: in Parking Lot 25A (Activities and Recreation Center), Lot 41 (Hutchison Drive), Mrak Hall Circle and West Village Square (which is where you will find Evy).
