The University of California, Davis announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a traffic records improvement project to report crash and citation data faster and more efficiently.
The UC Davis Police Department plans to deploy software, Crossroads, to provide accurate, up-to-date data to support planning, mitigation and resource deployment, and improve crash reporting timeliness, completeness and data analysis capability.
“Crossroads will allow our officers to document collisions faster and more consistently, which means less time on paperwork and more time on campus,” said Sgt. Carl Walter of the UC Davis Police Department. “More importantly, it allows us to promote data-driven solutions. When we understand exactly where, when and how crashes are happening, including those involving bikes, e-bikes and scooters, we can focus our enforcement, education and engineering recommendations on the places where they’ll prevent the most injuries.”
“Accurate and timely traffic records data helps inform our understanding of the most urgent traffic safety issues in California communities,” OTS Director Stephanie Dougherty said. “By funding modern reporting systems, we’re helping agencies streamline how critical information is collected and shared to strengthen effective, data driven strategies that make our roads safer.
The grant program runs through September 2027.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
