Canvas Access Restored

May 9, 2026, 10 p.m.

Dear UC Davis community:

UC Davis Canvas is once again available. Our technology teams completed additional security reviews after Canvas was brought back online.

Some features will not be available immediately, as they were disabled to protect the security of Canvas and your data during this incident, and will take additional time to restore.

Check the status of your learning tools/integrations on the Canvas Learning Tools Update page. Updates will be posted as tools are re-enabled.

Canvas guest accounts and personal access tokens (PATs) have been disabled.

Support is available via:

Thank you in advance for your patience as we expect a large number of inquiries.

We recognize that this incident has been disruptive, and appreciate the entire campus community as we navigate this evolving situation together.

Dear UC Davis community:

Thank you for your patience as we work to address the global Canvas security incident. We recognize the impact that this incident has had on our students, faculty and staff.

Canvas at UC Davis remained unavailable today, Friday, May 8, 2026.

While Instructure has advised that the security incident has been contained and remediated, the UC Office of the President is working with each campus to make risk-based decisions about when to restore access to Canvas. Given that UC Berkeley and UC Merced’s instances of Canvas are accessible again, we are cautiously optimistic that we will be back online soon.

In the interim, helpful resources for instructors can be found on the Alternative Instructional Tools Canvas Outage website

We will continue to share updates as soon as they are available on the Canvas Incident webpage.

Dear member of the UC Davis community,

Starting at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Canvas, UC Davis’ primary learning management system, became unavailable following a global cybersecurity incident affecting its vendor, Instructure. As of 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, Canvas remains unavailable. This is a vendor-driven cybersecurity incident affecting multiple institutions globally.

At this time, please do not attempt to access Canvas until further notice. If you are currently in the system, do not click any links and close your browser immediately.

We recognize that this service interruption is disruptive to teaching and learning. We are working to assemble resources to ensure continuity during this emergency.

Updates will be provided to the campus as more information becomes available. For the latest information and resources for students and instructors, please see the Security Incident: Canvas Unavailable page.
