NIH-Funded Research Unlocking the Power of Genes

At UC Davis, Dr. Kent Lloyd leads groundbreaking NIH-funded research to uncover the functions of thousands of genes in the human genome. Using mouse-models, whose genes closely mirror our own, Kent's team has already helped identify roles for genes in heart disease, schizophrenia, diabetes and cancer. These discoveries are leading to promising new drug targets, treatments and prevention strategies that benefit both human and animal health.

Helping Humanity

Every gene we understand brings us closer to preventing disease, saving lives and improving medical treatments. Without continued funding, this life-saving research will halt. The genes we’ve yet to understand today could hold the key to tomorrow’s cure. Cutting support now risks turning scientific momentum into missed opportunities.

“If our funding were cut, we would be left in the dark about the function of thousands of genes —setting back our understanding of biology, disease pathology, and the discovery of new treatments.”
